Truck driving undoubtedly has its challenges here in the United States. Crowded highways, not enough parking areas and long hours are just a few of the problems drivers face on a daily basis. I was enjoying a meal at a Petro Truck Stop the other day when I heard another driver complaining about the food. It appeared that he felt that some of the items on the buffet were not hot enough. I agreed that some of the entrees could have been warmer, but I really didn’t care. I was just enjoying the meal.

This situation got me thinking about the complaints I hear from other truck drivers. Perhaps I’m just “different,” but I simply cannot relate to many of these problems that truck driving faces here at home. As I was completing my meal, another driver walked in and was upset because he had driven through the night and was still unable to get unloaded. He said the only thing left to do right then was getting something to eat, take a shower and go to bed. He ate his meal complaining the entire time about his run through the night. I thought about the truck drivers in Iraq.

The most dangerous job in the Middle East is truck driving. I wondered about certain correlations between truck driving here in the U.S. and truck driving in Iraq. I looked around and listened to more complaining by other drivers about their “hardships.” I took a hard look at myself. I thought about the good job I had and the ability to make a nice pay check. I looked at all the food on the buffet readily available for my taking. I knew that later that night I would be home and my wife would have the coffee ready and I could sit and relax in my favorite chair. I thought about my freedom. Hardships? What hardships? When starting a truck driving career, being out on your own for the first time is a daunting experience. Your trainer is no longer in the cab with you and you are now solely responsible for your truck and your load. As a beginning truck driver, there are many tricks of the trade you do not know yet, things that could really help you be a safe driver and make your truck driving career a long and rewarding experience.

To get a better understanding of what life on the road is really like, experienced truck drivers were asked to provide some tips for those just starting out. The drivers, some with over twenty years experience, provided a list of what the most important things to look out for are. The list was then broken down into the top three.

The first tip for truck drivers concerns one of the scariest aspects of driving a big rig: driving on the ice. When driving in winter conditions, the most important thing to remember is do not step on the brakes while driving on black ice. If you do, you will find that instead of slowing down, your rig will spin, potentially into oncoming traffic.

Instead of slamming on the breaks when you start to feel yourself slide, simply take your foot off the throttle and let gravity slow you down. Be sure to watch the road ahead and steer in the direction your trailer is drifting, following with a counter steer. This will help you keep control until you pass the ice and are able to pull over.

The second tip from the experienced drivers is to say focused. When starting your day, tell yourself things are going to happen. People are going to cut you off, slam on their breaks and follow too closely. However, it is very important to remind yourself that you can’t control their driving, but you can control yours. Don’t let yourself become upset at the actions of others. Doing this will only make you become a part of the problem instead of a solution.

The third tip is for recent graduates, or those about to graduate: learn and remember how to slide your fifth wheel and tandems to balance your load. This is very important because it is one of the top reasons why truckers get tickets. Remember to always inspect your truck before any trip. New truckers often make the mistake of thinking that the pre-trip inspection is simply something unnecessary taught in school, but this is not so. There are many states doing random inspections, and if your rig is not up to the standard, you will pay for it

Management accountants are often a part of executive teams involved in strategic planning or the development of new products, where they analyze and interpret financial information that corporate executives need in order to make sound business decisions. They also prepare financial reports for other groups, including stock holders, creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities. Management accountants are usually a part of an accounting department, employed a large company, and may work in many areas that may include financial analysis, planning, budgeting, and cost accounting.

3. Government Accountant

A government accountant works in the public sector, maintaining and examining the records of government agencies and auditing private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulation and/or taxation. This accountant job description, while detailed, is much more specialized. Government accountants are employed by Federal, State, or local governments, and work to guarantee that revenues are received and expenditures are made in accordance with laws and regulations. Those employed by the Federal government may work as Internal Revenue Services agents or in financial management, financial institution examination, or budget analysis and administration.
